Wrath of Khan steelbook

$

A little randomly, Best Buy have released an exclusive steelbook edition of the Wrath of Khan bluray. It is available in the US (although has already sold out online there), and Canada.

I say randomly, because this is the first prime-timeline Star Trek movie to get a steelbook release, and it doesn't appear to be part of any greater scheme to release the other films in the fancier packaging. It does join both of the nuTrek movies, which have had multiple different steelbook designs released already. And if you're a German disc collector you can also pick up TNG and TOS bluray season sets in steelbook packaging.

This Month: May 2015's Star Trek releases

$

It's been a curious month of Star Trek stuff: There have been two Delta Quadrant adventures, but neither of them featuring Voyager. There are several different models of the USS Enterprise, one of them chopped in half! Plus all sorts of other curiosities, including gnomes, coins, and tribbles. Continue below for the full run down of all May's Star Trek releases.

Books

Dave Galanter returns to the TOS TV era, for his new novel Crisis of Consciousness:
The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise is completing a diplomatic mission with the Maabas, an alien race with whom they’d been sent to sign a treaty. The Maabas are a peaceful people who are not native to the star system they now inhabit, but were refugees from a great war long ago. Several hundred thousand took shelter on their new planet, and have been there for thousands of years. While they have warp capability, they do not travel the stars, but seek to explore within. The Federation’s interest is in the Maabas’s great intellectual resources. Their science, while behind Federation standards in some areas, excels in others. They are highly intelligent, with unique approaches, and their philosophy is in line with that of the Federation. But just as the pact is signed, the Enterprise is attacked by an unknown ship. They manage to show enough force to keep the alien vessel at bay…but a new danger arises, as their mysterious foes are the Kenisians—a race that used to inhabit this planet thousands of years ago, and now want it back.

The crew of the Enterprise also return for another adventure in John Byrne's New Visions photo-comic series. Resistance, the sixth issue in the series, sees the Kirk and crew meeting a familiar (to us at least) foe, while working on the edge of the Delta Quadrant. The most minimalist blurb in the history of Star Trek gives a slight hint:
One word: Borg!

You can read a few preview pages from Resistance in my earlier report. Meanwhile the other timeline's Kirk and co are also in the Delta Quadrant! Issue forty-five in the nuTrek ongoing series is the final chapter in the three-part Eurydice story. See how that issue begins in another earlier report.
“Eurydice, Part 3 of 3.” Trapped deep in the Delta Quadrant, Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise fight for their lives to escape the clutches of the Dark Market syndicate! Don't miss this all-new adventure produced in association with STAR TREK writer/producer Roberto Orci!

Model ships

It's been an Enterprise month from Eaglemoss, with issue forty-six of The Official Starships Collection giving us the Ambassador class USS Enterprise-C. This was followed by the Klingon Negh'var in issue forty-seven. As ever these came to the UK first, and will be making their way to other parts of the world as the collection progresses in different markets.

For extensive coverage of the entire Starships Collection, including links to all my previous coverage of all the issues, see my index page.

Also out this month is wave fifteen of Wizkid's Attack Winggaming miniatures. The three ships in this assortment are the USS Prometheus, the Bajoran ship Ratosha, and the Klingon Bird of Prey IKS Ning'tao.

From Round 2 Models there's a reissue of the USS Enterprise cutaway model kit, last seen two decades ago! It now comes in a snazzy new box, and has a new stand and decals.

If you like the idea of peeking inside the ship, check out my previous "Slicing up the Enterprise"article, for a look at all the different cross-sections of the ship we've been offered over the years.

And there's one more Enterprise this month, Bif Bang Pow' little wobbling Monitor Mate Enterprise-D.

Blurays

There are a couple of new-ish bluray releases. In the UK you can get Enterprise: The Full Journey, a boxset of all four seasons. At present this is the only full series boxset, and as it's region free it's good wherever you are; if you can get hold of it.

Meanwhile in North America there's a steelbook release of The Wrath of Khan, exclusive to Best Buy.

Curiosities

And then, there are gnomes... Four of them are available exclusively from ThinkGeek.

Big Mouth, the company that makes the gnomes, have also recently released drink "koolers" and an inflatable captain's chair poll float:

Meanwhile QMx have released their latest tribble, they're calling this new grey variety "platinum".

And speaking of precious metals... Perth Mint have released their second set of silver Star Trek coins, this TNG themed pair features Captain Picard and the USS Enterprise-D.

German Language

Finally it's a bumper month of new releases from German publisher Cross Cult. In prose they have another Dave Galanter story, his 2001 COE ebook novella Ambush, co-written with Greg Brodeur. The German edition is known as Der Hinterhalt. This comes out alongside the latest German book in Peter David's New Frontier series, Stein und Amboss, or Stone and Anvil, from 2003.

There's also a new comic book translation, Die Neue Zeit VI: Der Khitomer-Konflikt, which despite the name, is in fact the equivalent of IDW's nuTrek ongoing Volume Seven. This is because Cross Cult published Volume Six, After Darkness, as a standalone book, simultaneously with the US release, to capitalise on the story's post-Into Darkness tie-in shortly after the release of the film. Now they have caught up and passed that point in the series, the volume numbers will be out of sync going forward.

Finally there are two more releases from Cross Cult: At the recent FedCon convention they released posters using some of their original book-cover artwork, the diptych covers from their edition of Greg Cox's Eugenics Wars duology, plus the artwork for McCormack's book in The Fall. If they had any left over they planned to sell them online in a week or so.

You can find out more about all these items, and everything else out this year, with links to all my previous coverage on my schedule page.

Starships Collection's shuttlecraft, Enterprise, Insurrection, and TOS remastered

$

Lots of updates from The Official Starships Collection, including new previews of the USS Enterprise, and news of ships from Insurrection and TOS remastered. But first, here's the latest preview, tweeted by The Collection's manager, Ben Robinson, of some of the shuttlecraft models, including the first looks at the lovely Type 6 and Type 9 models!

These three, along with the type 10, will be making their way to people who opted into the premium subscription model in the mostly recently launched European markets for The Collection. They are due to be released in other parts of the world too, but by as-yet undetermined means. You can see lots more picture of the Galileo in a previous report.

Meanwhile the mothership is incoming; it's just over a month until issue fifty, the original USS Enterprise makes it's debut in the UK. Eaglemoss'Hero Collector website has released several new images, giving us a closer look at the model. Continue below for more of the Enterprise, and news of other ships coming up in the series.

Ben Robinson also posted a new rendering of the Cousteau, the Enterprise-E's captain's yacht Insurrection. Apparently the CGI files from Insurrection have not resurfaced, so Eaglemoss have commissioned new models by Fabio Passaro. With a rendering done, I guess that means the yacht is on the way, but what about the other ships form the film? When asked about Son'a Ben had this to say:
Starfleet vessels first. Concentrating on those up to issue 90

And there was a similar reply to requests for the Soyuz class, ships from Wolf 359, and the Curry class; look for them beyond issue ninety. So we better hope the series gets another expansion, as there are many great designs still to find a slot!

Meanwhile one ship that does look likely to get a spot is the Orion vessel that replaced the blob of light in Journey to Babelwhen the episode got remastered. Ben has all the TOS remastered ships available to him now, and while he's not expecting to do models of them all, he has identified this as a favourite.

Justin Lin declares his trekkie credentials

Anyone worried that Justin Lin, director of Star Trek Beyond, didn't have a trekkie leg to stand on, having come to this franchise after a multi-movie stint working on Fast and Furious films, should have their fears allayed by a recent interview with Lin from Deadline. He discussed his life long affinity for Trek, and perhaps most interestingly, in contrast to J.J. Abrams' declared preferences, makes clear how that is distinct from being s Star Wars fan:
I thought about how much a part of my life Star Trek was. Growing up, my parents had this little fish and chips restaurant in Anaheim in the shadows of Disneyland, and they didn’t close until 9 PM. As a family, we didn’t eat dinner until 10 PM, and we would watch the original Star Trek every night at 11. My dad worked 364 days a year, only took Thanksgiving off, and from age 8 to 18, the only time I could hang out with my parents was by staying late. And every night, it was Star Trek on Channel 13 in L.A. That was my childhood. All my friends were Star Wars kids but I didn’t go to the movies, so I was the Star Trek kid. Thinking about this, it became a very personal and very emotional decision.
Lin also talked a little about the direction the new film will be going, emphasising as others have before the five-year-mission setting:
As great as JJ’s films were, there’s still a lot to be mined from these characters. They haven’t really gone on their five-year mission, so what we experienced in the TV show hasn’t been touched on yet. That sets up an opportunity for exploration and the deeper you go, the more you are examining humanity. Those are the things that I absorbed as a kid and hope to tap into and embrace and celebrate. By the time this movie comes out, Star Trek will have been around for 50 years.
It’s all new and fresh. The Klingons, Romulans and other species are great, but it’s time to go further. It has been fun to focus on creating whole new worlds and species.
You can read the full interview on Deadline. Meanwhile Star Trek Beyond is set to start shooting this month, starting a year long dash to release next July. To keep track of all the news about the film, visit my Star Trek Beyond guide page.

Green Lantern crossover goes cover crazy!

The first issue of The Spectrum War, the nuTrek/Green Lantern crossover comic series, already had more covers on that way than any Star Trek comic ever published, and now StarTrek.com have announced six more retail and convention exclusive covers, bring the total number of covers for the first issue up to sixteen! Continue below to check them all out!

A few of those covers have artist inscriptions, alas I can only make out/recognise two off them, the CBLDF cover is by nuTrek regular artist Tony Shashteen, and the Comic Block cover is by Francesco Francavilla (who incidentally recently posted a bit of Batman/Star Trek artwork on his blog)

The artwork, by Jae Lee, for the seventh retailer exclusive, from Dynamic Forces, had already been released, and StarTrek.com now revealed that in it's final cover form. There is also expected to be a black and white version of this one:

Another set of covers will be Previews exclusives at the San Diego Comic Con. A Joe Corroney design will be released as a wraparound cover, and then the same artwork split as two individual covers.

And besides all those exclusives, there are also three regular covers! These are by Gabriel Rodriguez, Francesco Francavilla, and Elsa Charretier. Plus, there's the subscription cover by Garry Brown, and a blank sketch cover (the latter the only one not previewed).

Issue one is due out in July. The second issue of the series only has three covers, two of which were revealed in IDW's August solicitations. Looking further ahead, Garry Brown has posted his inks for the first four subscription covers in his DeviantART gallery, including these first looks at the third and fourth issue cover designs:

Still not spotting the cover you want for the first issue of The Spectrum War, the nuTrek/Green Lantern crossover comic series? Well you're in luck! Bleeding Cool have posted lots of covers from the series, revealing a further five designs, three new variants of previously seen designs, plus the final form of some previously seen artwork. On top of that they announced Gamestop and ThinkGeek are also due to have exclusive covers.

All together (so far!), that brings the total to twenty-six different covers, almost three times as many as first issue ofThe Primate Directive(the Planet of the Apes crossover), which previously held the record for most covers for any Star Trek comic! Continue below to check out all the new designs:

Among this latest batch of cover releases is final coloured form of Joe Corroney's Previews exclusive Comic Con covers, with the wraparound cover look particularly spectacular! The same artwork is also been split across two standard covers:

The previously seen Jae Lee Dynamic Forces cover comes in three versions, the colour artwork is getting both regular and virgin covers, plus a black and white version.

The Neal Adams BAM exclusive cover also has three variants, two versions of the colour artwork, with slightly different treatments of the titles, plus a black and white one.

USS Defiant in the SDCC interphase

Diamond Select Toys have announced their San Diego Comic Con exclusives, which include a new variant in their range of model starships. Available in an edition of two-hundred at the convention in July will be the USS Defiant NCC-1764, made in a translucent green plastic to give Defiant an otherworldly look as if it is in the interphase, from The Tholian Web.

Like the previous convention exclusive cloaked Klingon bird of prey, this particular edition will not feature the electronic light and sound features from the standard USS Enterprise model (as you'd be able to see all the wires). More after the jump:

Images via ToyArk, which I think it's safe to assume do not represent the final product; the graphics appear to have been added after, and hopefully wont be so wonky on the real ones!

This isn't an entirely new idea, there have been at least two other USS Defiants issued, and both the previous versions went with a glow in the dark effect. Those were limited edition Hallmark Keepsake decoration, and an AMT model kit.

First look at new Star Trek Mega Bloks

At the recent Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, CBS put together a very impressive display showcasing half a century of Star Trek merchandising, ready to gather interest in the franchise ready for next year's fiftieth anniversary.

Among the historical overview, the leading edge including something we've not seen before, the first look at the new Mega Bloks Star Trek construction toys, as seen in the form of a particularly impressive (if you can see past the misaligned nacelle struts) model of the original USS Enterprise (image via Collider):

There's not yet been any information on what the Mega Bloks range will include, so this could just be a display piece (although it would be out of context with the rest of the exhibit, which is all real products). If it is the first look at an actual set, I would suspect it will be one of the higher end sets, as this is pretty big as construction toys go.

If you look towards the front of the display you can also see some of the Mega Bloks figurines. On display are all the main TOS crew, plus two versions of a TOS Klingon (one look to be transporter-style transparent), and two mirror universe characters.

Continue after the jump for a look at the rest of the Star Trek display from the Licensing Expo:

As well as displaying Star Trek merchandise, the real eye-catcher in the booth was a huge model of the Enterprise-A flying above:

The history of Star Trek merchandise was composed of four panels of images, and four cases of artefacts, giving a pretty thorough overview of all the sorts of Star Trek stuff that has been produced over the years, in more-or-less chronological order:

One image above comes from the The Licensing Awards Twitter, the rest are all from Collider, where you can also find lots of other photos of other displays from the Expo.

First look at Starships Collection Borg Tactical Cube, plus issue list up to #70, and more!

$

0
Lots of news from The Official Starships Collection today, starting with the first look at the Borg Tactical Cube model, which will be arriving towards the end of the year as issue fifty-eight in the series. These first images of the model were accidentally posted on Eaglemoss's online shop, in a listing for what should be the nowindividually orderable subscriber bonus light-up Borg Cube.

Continue after the jump for lots more news form the series, including the latest confirmed issues, with the first seventy now known.

But first, The Collection's manager, Ben Robinson, tweeted this picture of the four shuttlecraft models, showing for the first time the Type 10 model:

The distribution method for the shuttlecraft model has still not been announced for most of the world, although German and French subscribers who opted into a premium subscription model should be getting them as part of that offer.

Meanwhile Ben also revealed the next five confirmed issues in the series, in a post on Eaglemoss'Hero Collector website. That means the first seventy issues in the series (which would have been the entire series, prior to it being extended) have now been announced.

Issue sixty-six will be the SS Raven, the ship used by Seven of Nine's parents to study the Borg.

This will be the first retail model available of this ship. It has been previously released as part of the Attack Wing miniatures game, but so far only as a promotional prize in organised play events.

Ben also posted another rendering of the ship, undertaking that Borg expedition, on his Twitter:

Issue sixty-seven will be the Klingon D7. The model will be based on the original studio model, rather than any of the latter remakes, that added in extra panelling details and such. Of the five ships announced this is the only one that required a new computer model, this time provided by Rob Bonchune.
The Federation fighter seen in the Dominion War will be coming as issue sixty-eight. This will only be second time this ship has been available as a model, with a previous Attack Wing squadron set already in the wild.
Also only previously released as a much smaller Attack Wing model, is issue sixty-nine's Breen warship.

Apparently the CG model for this one was lost for a while, but with it's discovery is the promise of other ships in the future, as Ben explained:
...a personal favourite and a ship that I've wanted to do since the very beginning: the Breen warship, which is a beautiful John Eaves design. It proved difficult because no-one seemed to have the original Lightwave model. But then we found David Lombardi and unearthed a whole cache of ships I thought had been lost forever. (You'll be seeing more of that in the coming months.)
Finally at issue seventy there's the Voth cityship, one of the biggest ships ever seen in Star Trek.

Due out next April (in the UK, with the rest of the world following as usual), with comes just a few months after the smaller Voth research ship that is coming at the end of the year as issue sixty-two. Both ships have never been available before as models.

Meanwhile there are a few more ships not quite fully confirmed that Ben has also been tweeting about.

Definitely coming, but not yet with an announced issue number, is Neelix's ship, the Baxial. You might notice if you look carefully at the filenames on the preview images Ben posted, it says issue seventy-five, but this has apparently been moved slightly, and for now Ben would only confirm mid-seventies.

Another Voyager support-craft is the ever-present but never-used (onscreen) Aeroshuttle. Posting this image, Ben teased that is "Might just be on the list..."

And another one up for consideration is the TOS remastered Gorn ship, only seen onscreen as a tiny blur, but we might be getting a much closer look.

With only twenty more issues until the current planned end of the series, however will all these ships Ben teases with find space in The Collection? Well there might be exciting news on the horizon: When asked about a possible further expansion, Ben had this to say:
We should have news on that in September.
Finally, for your viewing pleasure, the Eaglemoss online shop has updated their USS Enterprise-C listing with a couple of new images. UK collectors already have this one, and it should be arriving next in the US, at the start of July.

Behind the scenes photos of the USS Pasteur

A wonderful collection of behind the scenes photos of the USS Pasteur has surfaced, thanks to a tweet from visual effects artist Eric Alba. The photos were originally taken by Greg George, who designed and built the miniature in his own time, before offering it up for use in the final episode of The Next Generation, All Good Things... The photos feature George's original name for the ship, the USS Olympic, before it was renamed to better reflect its use in the episode as a medical vessel.

I've picked out some of my favourite images below, and you can see a lot more in the original image gallery.

In addition to the final model, there are also lots of work in progress images in the gallery, including blueprints, and images showing how the model was built.

IDW September titles, and other Star Trek comics news

$

IDW have released their solicitations for September, and it's a bumper month of Star Trek comics, with three new stories, plus a new omnibus on the way. Continue below to check them all out:

New Visions #8: The Survival Equation
Written and photo-manipulated by John Byrne.
Andrea, Ruk, Exo III — names that conjure grim memories for James Kirk. What, then, happens when the killer androids start showing up by the dozen? Plus, a special guest star who’s bound to surprise!

As if that cover isn't sufficiently eye-catching, John Byrne also posted a preview page from this issue on his forums:

Star Trek (nuTrek ongoing) #49: 5 Year Mission - Deity, Part 2
Written by Mike Johnson, with art by Tony Shasteen.
The FIVE YEAR MISSION of the Starship Enterprise continues here in the epic conclusion to "Deity"! Up against a fierce new enemy, Captain Kirk must choose between sacrificing his ship and crew or allowing an innocent species to perish!
This issue has two covers, the regular by Tony Shasteen, and a subscription variant photo-cover.

Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War #3
Written by Mike Johnson, wiht art by Angel Hernandez.
The blockbuster crossover event of 2015 continues here, as the galaxy explodes in a Lantern-fueled war between the Federation and its enemies! Captain Kirk and the ring-bearing crew of the Enterprise must join forces with Hal Jordan to prevent the loss of entire civilizations... as the identity of the villain behind it all is revealed!
There are three covers for this one, the regular by Tony Shasteen, a variant by Rachael Stott, plus the subscription variant by Garry Brown (the latter has yet to be revealed)

Star Trek, Volume 10
Written by Mike Johnson, with art by Cat Staggs and Tony Shasteen.
The lead up to the next movie begins here! Following their encounter with the extradimensional entity known as “Q”, Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise continue their five-year mission into unexplored space. Contains the stories "Behemoth,""Eurydice," and "The Tholian Webs” from issues #41–46.

In other comics news, the fourth book in IDW's Gold Key Archives is due out in October, and Amazon have revealed the cover art for that already (albeit not at greatly impressive resolution). This volume collects remastered versions of issues nineteen to twenty-four, of the first ever Star Trek comics series.

And finally, speaking of early adventures of the Enterprise, in another forum posting by John Byrne, he revealed he has been working on a straight photo-comic adaptation of The Cage. It started as a bit of fun, as likeness approvals would be problematic, but he's sent the now complete thing to IDW just in case, as he explained:
Too many actors from those shows did not sign off on the use of their likenesses, and now they are dead! Peter Duryea and John Hoyt, for instance. Still, didn't stop me dummying up a splash page for an adaptation of THE CAGE. Showing it here doesn't break any rules.
Because I am, you know, ME, I went ahead and did the full adaptation of "The Cage." Runs to fifty pages! Now in Chris Ryall's hands, as he sets about determining whether there is a way around the issue of likenesses, and this could actually be published as a "special" for the 50th next year.

If that doesn't happen, I'll serialize it here in the Forum, but, well, I'd like to see a for real version out there!

Here's a sample page to show how I am stitching the images together, as well as some of the editing made necessary by the comicbook format.

Latest TOS apparel from The Coop

The Coop have added several new items to their range of TOS apparel; all these latest designs draw inspiration from uniform and props. For instance, this TOS phaser fanny pack, which is more or less to scale; so when worn on the hip will almost look like a holstered phaser (as you can see in another image further down the page):

There's also a range ofTOS uniform inspired messenger bags, which are designed with laptop/tablet transportation in mind. All three department colours will be available, and come with a neat little metal Starfleet delta rivet, and embroidered rank braids on the side. Continue below for more images.

The Coop were good enough to photograph both of these products with models, to give a sense of scale:

They have also released a new image of the Starfleet delta coin pouch (which I have previously previewed), showing it in-action (as active as a coin pouch can be at least):

This design will also be available in all three department colours. All the above items are due out in July.

Star Trek: Attack Wing waves 19-22, and more

$

Wizkids have recently announced several new waves of ships in their Star Trek Attack Wingminiatures games, with their monthly releases of three individual ships now scheduled up to January next year! Continue below to check out all the forthcoming releases, and for a close look at the most recently available ships.

Coming in October, wave 19 will include the Delta Flyer, the Klingon Bird of Prey IKS Rotarran, and Romulan ship RIS Talvath. I believe this is the first time the Delta Flyer has been made as quite such a small model, which could have its appeals if it works at a nice scale with one of the larger models of Voyager.

Wave 20, coming in November, includes the Constellation class USS Hathaway, the Kazon Raider Halik, and squadron of Romulan (or Reman) Scorpion class fighters. The Scorpion class are new models too.

Wave 21 is set for December release, and includes the Jem'Hadar fighter Robinson (the one the DS9 crew captured), a Bajoran lightship, and the Cardassian Dreadnought missile. I believe this will be the first ever model of the Dreadnought.

The first release of 2016, and the last one so far announced, wave 22, due out in January, will include the Defiant class USS Valiant, the Romulan ship RIS Pi, and the Andorian ship Kumari. This will be only the second time the Andorian ship has been released, following the recent Eaglemoss version.

In addition to the ships you can buy, Wizkids often also promote regular organised play events, where retails can order in themed packs to play the game ins-store. Several models have made their debut as prizes in these events, before later being offered as regular retail releases. The next event, due at the end of the year, will be the Temporal Cold War, which looks set to be Xindi themed, and the Xindi-superweapon looks likely to be a big model, like the previous Borg Cube and Deep Space 9 models.

Wizkids have sneakily displayed this model already, in prototype form, in a photo from their offices that they posted on Facebook. I've highlighted the interesting Star Trek bits below; as well as the Xindi weapon there's also a different big Borg Cube there, which appears to have a Sphere port. Thanks to Darth Duranium for pointing me towards this.

It's been a while since I've looked for release images of the Attack Wing ships, so, going all the way back to January: Wave 11 included the Romulan drone ship Prototype 01, Hirogen ship, Alpha Hunter, and Fighter Squadron 6, a group of three Federation Attack Fighters. All three of these are the first ever models produced of the respective designs - Although Eaglemoss has all three on their list for larger models, with the Romulan drone out already, and one of their most impressively detailed so far.

Here they all are, as packaged, and with all the contents of the expansions. You can get a better look at some of the cards with each ship in previews on StarTrek.com, here, here, and here.

Wave 12 onsisted of the Kazon Ogla's Razik, the Romulan warbird IRW Haakona, and a Tholian ship, Tholia One. StarTrek.com card previews: here, here, and here.

Wave 13 featured the Gorn raider, Gornarus, the Constitution class mirror universe ISS Enterprise (which was originally solicited as being in refit configuration, but by final release had reverted to the on-screen seen original configuration), and the Cardassian Galor class Reklar. This is the first, and so far only, model of the TOS remastered Gorn ship - The first widely available at least, it was previously offered as one of the prizes in an Attack Wing play event. StarTrek.com card previews: here, here, and here.

Wave 14 included the mirror universe NX class ISS Avenger, Kyana Prime, aka the Krenim Temporal Weapon, and the Oberth class USS Pegasus. StarTrek.com card previews: here, here, and here.

And wave 15 featured the Klingon Bird of Prey IKS Ning'tao, the Bajoran ship Ratosha, and the USS Prometheus. I believe the Bajoran ship is yet another first time model of that design. StarTrek.com card previews: here, here, and here.

That's all for now, but there are Attack Wing ships out every month, so plenty more to look forward to throughout the year!

Pretty Ugly have revealed two newStar Trek Uglydolls, which will be available exclusively at the San Diego Comic Con next month. Babo's Bird has adopted the role of redshirt, and unfortunately didn't last long in the role! Perhaps this is due to Wedgehead's new persona as a Klingon...

These two join five other TOS characters which were released earlier this year. Hopefully the continuation of the Star Trek brand at Comic Con is indicative of more general Star Trek releases on the way.

Uglydoll creator David Horvath also shared an image of the redshirt meeting his demise while joining the senior officers in a landing party. Check that out after the jump:

Available individually and as a pack. Afraid they'll be a little more expensive (exact cost TBC). Smaller quantities - higher price
He also confuirmed they will be available in the UK and US, and will be offered to subscribers and through Eaglemoss' online shop, but not general retail.

Finally Ben also shared this great photo of the USS Centaur studio model, freshly photographed by Star Trek visual effects artist Adam Buckner for use in the magazine when this ship is released as issue fifty-two.

The Wit and Wisdom of Star Trek

Out this week is the latest Star Trek non-fiction book, The Wit and Wisdom of Star Trek. The book features quotes and notes from cast and crew, as author Robb Pearlman explained on StarTrek.com:
I was tasked with selecting some of the best and most memorable quotes and moments from The Original Series. This assignment is akin to having to choose the most memorable or impactful Shakespearean sonnet or line from Wilde, and one that I did not take lightly. Since many of the same issues faced in the 1960s are still around today, I tried to pick those that were as timeless, and timely, as possible. Whether it’s about life, death, war or prejudice, Star Trek’s characters give voice to issues and various viewpoints. And to balance out the wisdom, as Star Trek does, the quotes included in the book are balanced with, and complemented by, with some of the show’s most-memorable phrases, with, for good measure, some facts and quotes about the show, its stars and its impact.

It was heartbreaking to learn, the day we were to print the book, that Leonard Nimoy had passed away. In today’s world of staged charity, Nimoy’s kindnesses to his co-stars, crew, fans, and yes—even me—are well documented and 100% true. Though it would cost us some production time, we literally stopped the presses, redesigned the book, and included a special dedication to him. I’m enormously proud to have contributed a small part in honoring the man who meant so much to us all.

In the end, it became apparent that Star Trek itself is about wit and wisdom: A not-so-distant future in which Earth-bound petty grievances and apparent differences are put aside and humanity, as a whole, bands together for everyone’s good. I’m pretty sure that every Star Trek fan wishes that we will, eventually, get to that place. In the meantime, I’m hopeful that we’ll follow Star Trek’s lead and, with a little bit of our own wit and wisdom, find ourselves worthy of tomorrow.
StarTrek.com have also released several page, much like TOS itself, the book's bright and cheerful layout hides all manner of thoughtful and inspiring messages (check them out after the jump):

Alas this book only pulls from TOS, for a further reminder of why Star Trek is one of the greatest cultural creations of all time, and foresees a world we should all strive to reach, I highly recommend this video:
