Following my earlier report on the new Star Trek TV series, identifying among various new roles on the production, the production designer, Mark Worthington, and one of readership here "Glasgow Motorway" found their way to an online portfolio of said artist, uncovering some amazing concept art.

The portfolio lists the art as belonging to a project called Green Harvest, but perhaps that is a codename for the series at this stage (a play on the working title for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Blue Harvest maybe?), as it labels the images as being of Federation and Klingon ships. Artist Samuel Michlap is credited on the Klingon designs, which appear to be based partly on stained glass windows, giving a beautiful and unique look to the ship:

The dragonfly-like Federation ship is credited to a J.D., and adding credence to these being for the new production, are dated '16.

Now before some of you jump into panic-mode: Let's remember these might not have anything to do with the new Star Trek at all, and just be coincidently linked by name. And even if they are from the production, they are concepts, not final artwork. You only need look back through concept art from previous Star Trek productions (from any era) to see that artists will often work through some pretty outlandish ideas before landing on what actually gets made.

I kind of love elements of these already though!

The new Star Trek series is due to start in January next year. The first episode will air in the US on the CBS Television Network, but subsequent episodes will be available exclusively on the the CBS All Access on demand streaming service. International distribution has yet to be detailed. To keep track of all the latest details from the new show, visit my Star Trek (2017 TV series) Guide page.
